General Description

Aloe is cactus-like plant that grows in hot, dry climates. Aloe produces two substances, a gel and latex, which are used for medicine. Aloe gel is the clear, jelly-like substance found in the inner part of the aloe leaf. Aloe latex come from just under the plantโ€™s skin and is yellow in color.

Use

Can be taken by mouth or applied to the skin. Aloe gel taken by mouth โ€“ hepatitis, itching, inflammations, diabetes type 2. Aloe latex taken by mouth mainly as a laxative for constipation, but also for seizure, asthma, bleeding, lack of menstrual period. Acne – apply aloe gel in the morning or evening. Burns – apply aloe gel. Constipation – aloe latex taking by mouth can reduce it or cause diarrhea. Genital herpes – apply aloe extract 0,5% cream three times daily.
Gum problems.

When can I eat it?

To prepare a gel cut off the spiky edges on the top and along side of the aloe leaf. Next slice off the skin on a flat side. Remove the clear gel and dice it into small cubes. Make sure to wash the gel cubes very well to remove all traces of dirt and residue

Contains 75 potentially active constituents, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, sugars, lignin, saponins, salicylic and amino acids.
Vit.A, C, E which are antioxidants. B12, folic acid, choline.
Calcium, chromium, selenium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium and zinc.

Cooking

The easiest way to consume gel is to make a juice or cut cubes into the salad.You can also cook aloe – larger pieces, gently steam or poach before using it in salads, veggies. For better flavor you can mix it with strong flavors such as sesame seed, garlic and chili. Aloe skin is safe to eat. Cut off the spiky edges on the top and along the side of the aloe leaf. Next slice off the skin on a flat side. Make sure to wash it very well to remove all traces of dirt and residue. You can soak it in water for 10-20 min before eating if you found it to tough to chew. Add to the salad, dip it in salsa or hummus.

Side effects

Eating every day may have a laxative effect. Long term regular consumption is not advised. Aloe gel has been used safely in a dose of 15ml daily up to 42 days. Taking aloe latex by mouth is possibly unsafe at any dose, but likely unsafe in high dose. Can cause stomach pain and cramps. Long term use can cause diarrhea, kidney problems, blood in urine, muscle weakness.
